Port Forwarding

$53.63

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Port forwarding or port mapping is the practice of forwarding a TCP/IP packet in a network address translator gateway to a predetermined network port on a host within a masqueraded, typically private network based on the port number on which it was received from the originating host. The technique is used to permit communications by external hosts with services provided within a private local area network.Port forwarding allows remote computers (e.g., public machines on the Internet) to connect to a specific computer within a private LAN. For example: Running a public HTTP server within a private LAN (port 80) Permitting Secure Shell access on the private LAN from the Internet (port 22)Permitting FTP access to hosts on a private LAN from the Internet (port 21) In Linux kernels this is achieved by packet filter rules in the iptables or netfilter kernel modules. BSD and Mac OS X operating systems use a similar tool named Ipfirewall (ipfw). Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Packet Forwarding

Packet Forwarding

$70.1

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Forwarding is the relaying of packets from one network segment to another by nodes in a computer network. A unicast forwarding pattern, typical of many networking technologies including the overwhelming majority of Internet traffic.A multicast forwarding pattern, typical of PIM. A broadcast forwarding pattern, typical of bridged EthernetThe simplest forwarding model unicasting involves a packet being relayed from link to link along a chain leading from the packets source to its destination. However, other forwarding strategies are commonly used. Broadcasting requires a packet to be duplicated and copies sent on multiple links with the goal of delivering a copy to every device on the network. In practice, broadcast packets are not forwarded everywhere on a network, but only to devices within a broadcast domain, making broadcast a relative term. Less common than broadcasting, but perhaps of greater utility and theoretical significance, is multicasting, where a packet is selectively duplicated and copies delivered to each of a set of recipients. Bidirectional Forwarding Detection

Bidirectional Forwarding Detection

$98.77

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) is a network protocol used to detect faults between two forwarding engines connected by a link. It provides lowoverhead detection of faults even on physical media that dont support failure detection of any kind, such as Ethernet, virtual circuits, tunnels and MPLS Label Switched Paths. BFD establishes a session between two endpoints over a particular link. If more than one link exists between two systems, multiple BFD sessions may be established to monitor each one of them. The session is established with a threeway handshake, and is torn down the same way. Authentication may be enabled on the session. A choice of simple password, MD5 or SHA1 authentication is available. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F.
